Opportunity & Challenge
Magic Apparel, formerly Magic Headwear, is a leading supplier of apparel, hats, t-shirts and uniform clothing. Their customers are typically promotional product distributors that purchase in bulk and then customize the items with embroidery or printing, then resell the items to consumers. As B2B ecommerce quickly became a standard for the wholesale apparel industry, Magic recognized that they needed a professional, stable site, and they needed it fast.
Their product line and inventory management covered thousands of items spread among multiple warehouses. The new site needed to manage customers’ orders, track available inventory, and integrate that data with MAS90, Magic’s accounting and inventory management software.
Strategy
Speartek recognized that this project would require a design and a platform that could accommodate Magic’s enormous product line, while remaining scalable in order to adapt and grow as the business expanded. To accomplish this, Speartek adapted the commerce platform to include multi-location inventory, and added options to the checkout form to allow the customer to select which warehouse would fulfill their orders. Connecting the site to the client’s accounting and inventory software added another layer of complexity.
Solution
Launched in mid-2008, the new Magic Apparel website quickly became the leading source of sales across the company, rapidly outpacing a seasoned sales rep team. Reduced administrative demands allowed sales reps to manage their relationships with clients more efficiently, giving them more time to pursue new accounts. The effectiveness of the MAS90 integration ensured that existing clients continued to receive excellent customer service, and provided a significant gain in operational efficiency, as transaction data auto populated to invoices, greatly reducing human processing time.
Continued Success
Magic continues to expand the website with additional product lines, and a separate non-branded catalog site powered by the same product database. After more than two years, continues to see a return on their investment through increased customer utilization of the site. The site now averages over 200 orders per month, accounting for $300,000 in annual sales and 2500 transactions automatically processed with no time wasted on administration. The operational cost savings along have easily returned the client’s investment several times over.
